Library Legacy Society Gives Posthumous Honors to On Friday, November 18, the St. Charles City-County Library Foundation's Library Legacy Society gave posthumous honors to Catherine Pundmann-Niedner, an individual who had a significant influence on the Library District. Mrs. Niedner served as on the district's Board of Trustees from 1983 until 1991 and helped pave the way for our libraries to become the distinguished destinations we know today. During her service and with her support, the St. Charles City-County Library District opened two new libraries, expanded two branches, and initiated the district's automated library system to adequately serve the area's growing population. Whether it is through the eyes of a child exploring a brand new world as a book is read to them at story hour, a teen who has a safe place to go after school, or an adult who can update their resume and search for jobs through the library since they no longer can afford a home computer, Catherine Pundmann-Niedner understood the impact that libraries have in people's lives and did her best to make that available to everyone. The Library Legacy Society and the staff of the St. Charles City-County Library District will be forever grateful for her dedication to our libraries and are proud to name her as the 2011 Library Legend. |

Library Legacy Society Honors Family and friends joined the St. Charles City-County Library Foundation on November 12 to present Dr. Robert Fleming with the 2010 Library Legend award. He is just the third recipient of this distinguished award given by the Foundation's Library Legacy Society to recognize his steadfast advocacy of the St. Charles City-County Library District. A retired opthamologist, Dr. Fleming was a member of the St. Charles Library board in 1973 and his was the deciding vote to merge the city's Kathryn Linnemann Library with the then troubled St. Charles County Library to form the district we enjoy today. He served on the Board of Trustees of the new St. Charles City-County Library District until the early 1980s. His vision helped guide the district to become the award-winning library service provider, currently ranking third in the nation on Hennen's Top Ten American Library rating scale. We thank Dr. Fleming for his support and forward-thinking leadership. |
